    Description

RENTERS: Right now there are approx. 4000 available rentals in the greater Edmonton area and the ONE thing they all have in common is they're all overpriced. There are few that may be worth what they're asking only because they're brand new and pest-free, but that does not reflect the majority of the offerings out there. Many have been listed for months and they still refuse to drop the price. This message is to tell you to hold out for as long as you can, and refuse the inflated rents they are demanding, especially in central areas where one formerly-affordable house in not-great condition is now sub-divided into multiple units for double the cost, expecting strangers to share space and utilities, and tenants responsible for all the yard maintenance. Sooner or later they will have to drop rents to reflect the actual value of the "units" they're offering (which is not 2K for a 2 bd shoe box with insufficient storage space, no garage, and they want hundreds more for utilities). Do not cave. Over-hold at your current place if you have to. RENTERS CHANGE THE NARRATIVE: Landlords "provide housing" the same way scalpers "provide tickets". The "investors" are causing the economic collapse of the entire country. We are not their personal ATM. They RELY on tenants to pay their mortgages and maintain their properties while 'providing' tenants with little living space and housing security that limits our earning potential. Do not help them prop up this bubble any longer. Hold Strong, There is Strength in Numbers. Housing is a Human Right under Article 25 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and under Article 11 of the 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Canada ratified both, the latter is binding, and we need to start exercising our rights.
