Things you should know about buying or adopting a pet

While pet sellers can be reputable individuals or breeders who treat their animals well, the ease of selling pets over the Internet also makes it attractive to careless, irresponsible breeders and scammers. To protect yourself, you must be careful and believe only what you see and not what you are told. It is highly recommended to arrange for an inspection of the home where the pets are bred. This allows you to check that the mother and other animals are living in suitable conditions, being well cared for, and are in good health.

Remember that the Kijiji Pets section is NOT intended to facilitate uncontrolled breeding, irresponsible commercial pet trading, trade of dogs or any other animal for the purpose of fighting or stud services. Any ads that are suspected of promoting this kind of activity or reported to us will be removed. Users are responsible for adhering to the applicable conditions in relation to adopting, buying, selling or listing of an ad on Kijiji.

Kijiji encourages, where possible, the adoption of pets and encourages all pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered as well as microchipped.

When looking for a pet, it is important to meet the breeder or seller and examine the pet before agreeing to anything. Since Kijiji is local to your community, this should be easy to arrange. Never adopt/buy a pet from someone who is unwilling to let you see how and where the animal is living!

Kijiji Pet Welfare Partners:

Description

This handsome boy is four years old. He's very sweet and loving. He likes to play fetch and will return the toy a thousand times if you're willing to throw it for him. He is a typical shepherd, he barks. He is on the nervous side and would prefer to be in large open spaces if he's meeting someone new. He doesn't get along with other male dogs, but is happy play with females. His name is Nitro, he is nervous of new people and will bark at them, usually he tries to avoid new people. He's not nippy and he is not known to bite. He has had one incident where a stranger had cornered him in an attempt to win him over and he snapped at the stranger. I think that it was totally appropriate, and wasn't fair to Nitro to be cornered like that when he was afraid. He loves to be outside, he spends most of his time in the yard. His favorite game is fetch and he will put the ball in your hand when he brings it back, then he will run a circle around you while you get ready to throw the ball again. He loves to chase a toy on the flirt pole. He also plays tug of war, and knows "out" and is very good about it. He is trained to walk on a prong collar, and I will send his with him. He knows sit, down, stay, come, and has good leash manners. We also did agility with him when he was younger so he knows jumps and tunnels. He is house trained but he might mark his territory in a new environment. He eats Inukshuk 26/16, 4 cups per day. Other than being afraid of strangers and barking at them he doesn't have any behavior issues, and no medical issues. I'm not in a rush to re-home him, he is very sweet and we have grown attached to him. But right now we have ten dogs (including our own dogs and several foster dogs/owner surrendes) and it's too many. People heard that we are a safe place for aggressive dogs and now we have several who live here with us so that they don't have to get put to sleep. I can't re-home them due to their aggression so I will be rehoming a few of the friendlier dogs. If you think you would be a good fit for him please reach out.
